The Red Light District is one of the most emblematic features of Amsterdam for tourists. Its reputation alone is enough to spark lively debates between conservatives and liberals, and even among divided feminists: is this profession the maximum expression of emancipation, or is it another patriarchal imposition? In this interview we want to delve into the underlying threats and structures sex workers face. We will tackle questions from the past like registration requirements, present concerns with regards to the Corona Crisis, and future possibilities like the role of sex robots, among many other topics.
We are honoured to have Dr. Marie Louise Janssen, professor at our own University of Amsterdam. Dr. Janssen lectures in the areas of gender and sexuality. Her academic interests revolve around the intersection of sex work, migration and human trafficking.
Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to shed some light on the world behind the red-neoned windows.
