The Prime Minister Putin Exiled: Mikhail Kasyanov
November 4 | 13:00 - 14:00
Room for Discussion stage, Roeterseiland
🇬🇧
This interview is in English
Mikhail Kasyanov served as prime minister of Russia from 2000 to 2004, during Putin’s first presidential administration. However, by the elections in 2004, one man was dismissed–and the other stayed in power. In the years following, Mr Kasyanov rallied opposition politics, leading the political coalition PARNAS together with Boris Nemtsov. In spite of Supreme Court bans, assassinations of his peers, and Russia’s attempts to silence any opposition, Mr Kasyanov – even in exile – remains one of the most prominent voices against Putin’s authoritarianism.
This November, he will be joining us in Amsterdam for a powerful discussion on Russia: the challenges of building political resistance in an authoritarian regime, his approach to international negotiation, and what a post-Putin Russia might look like. If you are interested in the insights of a man who has worked alongside Boris Yeltsin, Vladimir Putin, and Alexei Navalny, and would like the chance to ask a question yourself, mark November 4th on your calendar.
