Ernst Kuipers became a household name during the pandemic: a wise former doctor who helped guide the medical response to COVID-19. Now, he’s no longer just a medical expert: he’s a D66 politician.

Kuipers replaced former Minister of Health Hugo de Jonge in 2022, and has since dedicated the ministry to giving an update to healthcare policy in the Netherlands. This includes concentration of certain types of care, more collaboration and a bigger role for innovation.
