The positions we are looking for:

Interviewers
This is the classical position at Room for Discussion. Your responsibilities will entail inviting guests, preparing interviews and giving feedback to fellow interviewers, being Editor-in-Chief for interviews, and, of course, interviewing the platform’s guests.

Marketing Officers
You will be in charge of creating content for offline and online marketing, maintaining contact with the UvA, SEFA and other marketing teams. This mostly entails creating promotional content for interviews, managing RfDs online channels and publishing our interviews. Beyond that, the creative task of the Marketing Committee is to find ways to grow the RfD brand, online, as well as beyond the campus.
Marketing Officers are also able to give interviews themselves. There is much room for creativity, and you will be able to implement changes with much freedom.

What does Room for Discussion add to your Student life? 

• As a committee member, you become part of a close-knit team organising and realising interviews with insightful and high-profile guests from economics, politics, academia and culture. 
• You acquire skills that no course at university can offer. Like how to 1) persuasively invite a Head of State, 2) pose the right questions to the head of the International Monetary Fund, 3) make conversation over lunch with a world-famous journalist or 4) successfully build a student media platform.

You develop these and many other individual skills as you go about realising your very own interview ideas within RfD. We constantly work on our expertise in tandem with top journalists, interviewers and experts at our regular training sessions. Last but not least, you become part of a close group of people who will be happy to go for a beer and share opinions about today’s economic, political and societal challenges.

What do we expect from you? 

We expect you to: 

• Contribute to Room for Discussion on and beyond the stage ~16 hours per week
• Be motivated to work together on this student-led project
• Be proficient in the English language
• Have an interest in economics and politics
• Be able to commit to deadlines
• Be a good and proactive team player
• Commit to at least one year to the Room for Discussion team
