China

On tuesday November 12 we will discuss the influence and importance of the Chinese economy together with Henk Schulte Nordholt (first manager of the AMRO-bank in China) and Fokke Obbema (writer ‘China en Europa). This session will be held in English.

In the coming days, the Communist Party of China will organise the third plenary session of the 18th Congress of its Central Committee. Observers believe that this meeting will follow Party tradition and be a springboard for major national reform. The meeting comes as China faces major economic and social challenges. It will, to some extent, determine the direction of reform of the new leadership.

This gives us an excellent opportunity to reflect on Chinese politics, international trade relations, their financial sector, and of course, the economic future of China.

Henk Schulte Nordholt was the managing director of the first Dutch AMRO-bank in China, and has written several books about the country. Fokke Obbema is a successful writer for the Volkskrant, and has recently written the book ‘China en Europa’.
